Neighbors,

You are invited to volunteer in a research study about improving satisfaction in romantic relationships. The study is being conducted by researchers at John Carroll University, Gwynedd-Mercy College, and Villanova University. Volunteers in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. You and your partner will either (a) participate in 12 free sessions of couples counseling, or (b) engage in activities at home, such as reading a book on improving your relationship. Participants in the second group will have the option of attending a free two-day relationship
education workshop at the conclusion of the study. There is no cost to participants to be in the study.

In order to participate, you and your partner must:

- be in a heterosexual relationship
- be experiencing distress in your relationship
- be living together for a minimum of one year
- have no immediate plans to terminate your relationship
- have received no psychiatric treatment within the last two years
- be free of alcohol or drug problems and primary sexual dysfunction
- have no evidence of active partner abuse
- not be presently involved in other psychologically-oriented treatment
- not be pregnant or incarcerated
- live in the metropolitan areas of: California (Altadena, Long Beach, San Ramon), Georgia (Atlanta, Fayetteville), Illinois (Naperville/Chicago, Swansea), Indiana (Indianapolis), Iowa (Bettendorf), Maryland (Rockville), Michigan (Southfield/Detroit), New York (New York), North Carolina
(Raleigh), Tennessee (Nashville), Washington, DC.
