 <br />
This Timely Warning is being issued by Benjamin Hunter, Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police.<br />
 <br />
The Butler University Department of Public Safety has received nine (9) reports of car break-ins since Nov. 7, 2011. In each case the vehicle was parked on campus property and valuables were taken.  Items targeted were GPS devices, electronics, computers and book bags.   In one case, suspects were videotaped making purchases at a Meijer and Wal-Mart store in Avon, Ind. using a stolen credit card.  A picture of the suspects is included in the attached PDF.</p>

If anyone has any information concerning the car break-ins, please contact Detective Bruce Allee at (317) 940-9396. In the interest of campus safety, University Police would like to remind everyone of the importance of protecting your personal valuables:<br />
 <br />
· Don&#8217;t leave valuables in your car even for a short time.<br />
· Park in well lighted areas when possible.<br />
· Don&#8217;t leave GPS holders, IPOD chords or other electronic chords visible in your vehicle as the perpetrator may break into the car to look for the electronic devices.<br />
· Record and keep record of serial numbers and make and model of all electronic devices to assist in recovery if stolen.<br />
· Report any suspicious activity to the university police immediately by calling 940-9999 from your cell phone or 9999 from a campus phone.<br />

Timely Warnings are intended to make the campus community aware of a specific incident or information reported to have occurred to the University Police. Timely Warnings may be sent by various methods, including email, web postings, or text messages only when an incident does not constitute use of the Emergency Notification System (DawgAlert).</p>

This timely warning is meant to fulfill the requirement of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The Clery Act is a federal law that requires universities to disclose certain information about campus crime and security policies.<br />

The Holiday Home Tour has a rich history in our Midtown neighborhoods of Broad Ripple, Butler-Tarkington, Mapleton-Fall Creek, Meridian-Kessler and the North Meridian Street Historic District. Sponsored for many years by the Easter Seals Crossroads Guild, the tour began a new era last year as the Midtown Holiday Home Tour.<br />

<p>On Wednesday, Nov. 2 and Thursday, Nov. 3, Butler&#8217;s COPHS will partner with Community Family Medicine for a free Medicare Part D Enrollment/Re-enrollment event, held at Community Family Medicine, 10122 E. 10th St. Suite 100, Indianapolis, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day. Attendees must make an appointment by calling (317) 355-5715 and selecting the scheduling/appointment option.<br />
              </p>
<p>Attendees for all events should bring the following: Medicare card and Medicare Part D card (if you have one); list of all current medications and dosages; health insurance cards; and letter(s) from the Social Security Administration or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.<br />
              </p>

<p>Our guest speaker will be new Butler president James M. Danko, who became the 21st president of Butler University on Aug. 1, 2011.</p>
<p>Mr. Danko has had an extensive career as both an academic and a business leader. After nearly two decades in his home city of Cleveland, Ohio, where he established his own medical equipment company, he served at top institutions including Dartmouth College, the University of Michigan, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and, most recently, Villanova University as the Helen and William O&#8217;Toole Dean of the Villanova School of Business.</p>

<p>BTNA is co-sponsoring a debate between Mayor Greg Ballard and Melina Kennedy on October 5th at Clowes Hall at Butler University. Doors for the event open at 6:30pm and the debate will run from 7-8.</p>
<p>We are asking the community for questions that you would like to hear during the debate. Please take a minute to email BTNA on our website with any questions or topics you would like to see addressed by the candidates.</p>
<p>The BTNA board of directors will review the submissions and provide our questions to the debate moderate for final selection.</p>
<p>Please submit your suggestions by midnight on September 18th.</p>

<p>This event is presented by Binford Redevelopment and Growth, Broad Ripple Village Association, Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association, Harmoni, Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association, and Butler University. It is sponsored by AARP Indiana.</p>
<p>The debate will be moderated by John Ketzenberger, president of the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute.</p>
