The Creation Care Ministry of St. Thomas Aquinas Church would like to invite our Butler-Tarkington neighbors to participate in our neighborhood computer drive scheduled for Saturday, November 14 from 1-5:30 pm and Sunday, November 15 from 8 am – 1 pm. Computers, monitors, printers and accessories can be dropped off at the Saint Thomas Aquinas church entrance during those hours. Tax receipts will be provided.

Computers collected in the drive will be donated to Wings for West Africa, of which STA member, Kathleen Lattimer is President. After being refurbished and having their hard drives wiped, the equipment will be sent to rural secondary schools in Senegal, West Africa where teachers are trained in their use and maintenance. Any broken or unusable equipment will be responsibly recycled locally by Work Force, Inc. For more information, contact Kathleen at 846-2722 or wafwings@wafwing.org.

WORK ON BROAD RIPPLE PROJECT BRINGS ROAD CLOSURE

INDIANAPOLIS – As work progresses on the Broad Ripple Avenue Project
from College to Keystone, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works
(DPW) needs to close Evanston Avenue, north and south of Broad Ripple
Avenue. This closure will enable workers to rebuild and realign the
intersection of Broad Ripple and Evanston Avenues, one of the main
reasons for this project.

CLOSURE LOCATION:
Evanston Avenue, north of Broad Ripple Avenue to 65th Street and south
of Broad Ripple Avenue to 61st Street, will be closed.

Local access to businesses and homes will be maintained.

CLOSURE DATES:
On or after September 18 for approximately 40 days (mid-November)

PROJECT DETAILS:
The Broad Ripple Avenue Project from College to Keystone is
federally funded and is expected to cost between $2 million and $3
million. The project consists of minor road widening, the installation
of some turn lanes, curb and sidewalk work, traffic signal work, the
realignment of Broad Ripple and Evanston Avenues, and resurfacing. Work
started in the spring and the project is scheduled for completion this
fall.

Keeping Meridian Street Historic

One of the crown jewels of the city is the Meridian Street Historical District, which borders the east side of the Butler Tarkington neighborhood.  The Meridian Street Foundation (MSF) is an all-volunteer neighborhood association that focuses upon the North Meridian Street corridor between Westfield Boulevard and 40th Street. They support the Meridian Street Preservation Commission, and help home and property owners in the area follow the Design Guidelines.

You may not know it, but many Butler Tarkington residents reside in the Historical District, either in the Primary or Secondary area. To find out if you are in the District, please check this map for more information. If you reside in either area, additions and/or improvements to your house may be subject to the Design Guidelines referred to in the previous paragraph.

For more information about the Foundation, please visit the Meridian Street Foundation web site.
