In partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association is looking for volunteers to help with our annual neighborhood clean-up day on Saturday, April 22.
Who: You! and your neighbors. RSVP by sending an email to with “Clean-Up” in the subject line.
What: Groups will bag debris in the assigned areas using provided supplies, including:  gloves, trashbags and bottled water, some of which is supplied by our local Ace Hardware on Illinois St. But you are, of course, welcome to bring anything of your own that would be of value (some people have brought “trash pinchers,” etc. in the past).
Where: Meet at the Unitarian Universalist Church (615 W. 43rd St.). The clean-up area will be within a healthy walking distance of the church. We’ll extend south to 38th Street and not further east than Graceland.
When: Saturday, April 22 starting at 8 a.m. A light breakfast will be provided, you’ll receive some instructions and try to get started by 8:20 a.m. Groups will return to the church around 11:20-11:30 a.m. for a pizza lunch generously provided by Domino’s on 38th St. After lunch, a packer truck will arrive at noon, and we’ll head back out for some afternoon fun. A portion of the team will continue bagging debris not collected in the morning; others will follow the truck up and down streets to throw away heavy or unbaggable items.
Please note that while our full day is from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., volunteers are welcome to participate for a little or as long as long as you like.
Also, a special thank you to Butler University who is helping us out by organizing a student clean-up of the alleys between 38th and 42nd on the Friday afternoon before our event.  This will allow our Saturday team to focus more on side streets and other more visible areas.
Remember to RSVP to with “Clean-Up” in the subject line if you’re able to participate.
Thanks for your help in keeping Butler-Tarkington looking great!
